four beauty tips for women who normally don't give a crap.
I'm what we women like to call, "low maintenance." My favorite label is actually more like, "no maintenance."
I hate everything about the post-shower routine: lotion, doing my hair, taking care of my skin, putting on makeup, picking out clothes and accessorizing. I have very little patience for these things and it's a rare event when I actually take the time to do all of the above.
However, I've come to realize that I love the end result... I enjoy looking well-put-together. The cute jeans look better than the yoga pants and I have to admit, I really love my hair when I take care of it. I love the way I look when I put some effort into my appearance, but here's the thing: I HATE THE PROCESS. It takes time, effort and muscles (yeah, you read that right, I said muscles. Holding a curling iron upside down above your head so you can wrap your hair around it piece by piece is exhausting. Bonus? Toned biceps).
Because of my disdain for the getting-ready process, I've come to the point where I just don't care anymore. My outward everyday appearance over the course of the last two years has taken a hit and honestly? I looked like I didn't care, too. I never mastered the perfectly-mussed-up-ponytail look. I just looked sloppy.
Over the past month, I've been trying to put a little extra effort into looking put-together. While I've been putting in the time, I've also been trying to find easy, no-brainer ways to achieve the look I want with very minimal effort.
So, if you're a woman who doesn't give a crap about beauty regimens, but you've decided you enjoy the finished product, this is for you.
1. Learn the art of the no-heat curl. No joke, this easy process changed how I feel about doing my hair. I've always loved the beautiful, soft, wavy look but, I hate using the curling iron. It's ideal if you prefer to take showers at night, like me. I blow-dry my hair until it's 80% dry, apply this easy method (I use bigger sections of hair for a larger curl), go to sleep, take it out in the morning, and I've got lovely, beach-curly hair straight out of bed.
2. Simplify your skincare routine. Try the Oil Cleansing Method. I know. It sounds super hippie and crunchy to cleanse your skin with oil. But it's fast, easy, and I only have to do it about three times a week. It's actually done wonders for my skin (especially when I'm in Utah, where it's incredibly dry). I combine this cleansing method with eye-makeup remover wipes and BAM, done.
3. Invest in a good, hydrating makeup primer. A lot of people refer to primers as "clear makeup" and I couldn't agree more. They go on smoothly, they even out your complexion and give your face a nice, flawless look. I'm a huge fan, because I absolute HATE foundation, concealer and all that other stuff. For my everyday routine, I simply use the primer as my foundation. I use Smashbox Hydrating Primer so it does double duty as a makeup base and light moisturize, and I've been SO happy with the results.
4. Downsize your everyday makeup to three items. Yes. Three. That's it. After I use my primer, I add a little bit of blush with lots of shimmer to give me a fresh-faced glowing look (Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick is my favorite), then I use some volumizing mascara (I love Dior's Diorshow mascara, but it's pricey. Cover Girl is legit, y'all), and a quick coat of hydrating lip gloss. Three items. That's it. Blush, mascara and lip gloss. You can get all of that done in about 2 minutes flat.
